Environment

1.      Copy examples from environment committees in the Diocese and Grafton locality

2.      Stop using plastic bags

3.      Pick up rubbish on the beach

4.      Buy and grow organic produce

5.      Compost vegetable peelings etc

6.      Encourage the development and use of solar and wind power

7.      Plant native species and preserve local gene pools

8.      Roadside regeneration

9.      Conserve water

10.    Grow crops requiring less water and less pesticide

11.     Avoid growing/buying rice and cotton, which use too much water and damage the environment

12.     Use publicity to promote causes either by letter writing or using a shopfront

13.     RETURN PACKAGING TO THE SHOPS DAY

14.     Be safe rather than have to repair mistakes after the event

15.     Use safe detergents and cleaners

16.     Use drip irrigation

17.     Avoid species that hybridise and destroy the ecology

18.     CARBON TAX

19.     Avoid Genetically modified foods

20.     Map local flora and fauna; plant wildlife corridors

21.     Walk and cycle rather than drive whenever possible

22.     Use a hand mower

23.     Encourage councils to endorse and implement the Earth Charter

24.     Encourage Governments to regulate packaging

25.     Encourage new laws concerning grey water

26.     Force air travellers to pay a tax to offset the CO2 the trip produces

27.     Replant trees to absorb CO2 as in a bush care group adopt a bush area for yourself or your group and regenerate with the council

28.     Care for wildlife or an area of damaged environment

29.     Develop a self-sustaining garden based on natural and recycled water and recycled and organic materials

30.     Replace hot water systems with solar hot water

31.     Use roofs covered with photovoltaic cells to generate energy for your own use and to sell energy into the grid

32.     Replace WC with composting toilets

33.     Take own containers to the shops to avoid packaging

34.     Patronise shops that sell loose-packaged goods

35.     Become an organic gardener
